Neighborhood Meeting Set for June 26

Tuesday, June 26 -- 6:30 p.m. MMNA meeting, upstairs at Memorial Baptist Church

The next neighborhood association meeting has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, at the Memorial Baptist Church, located at 2800 S. Yale Ave. Join your neighbors to hear from our special guest Rick Bjorklund, president/CEO of Expo Square, with his update on what is coming for our largest neighbor. With Bell’s already gone, and the Drillers and Big Splash exploring options to leave, this is a critical time for the fairgrounds. Our City councilmember, Maria Barnes, also has been invited to discuss the annexation. We will also discuss the City’s Comprehensive Plan for future development, as well as open the floor for other neighborhood business.

Mark Your Calendar –Upcoming Neighborhood Events

Dumpster Days -- Fri., June 29, through Sun., June 31

MMNA has secured a city dumpster for neighborhood cleanup. It will be delivered on Friday, June 29, and will be picked up the following Monday morning. It will be located at or near 22nd Pl. and Richmond. If you want to leave items in the dumpster, be mindful of the rules: NO CARS, NO CAR PARTS, NO MAJOR APPLIANCES, NO REFRIGERATORS, AIR CONDITONERS, NO TOXIC MATERIALS, NO BUILDING MATERIAL, PARTS OF BUILDINGS, SHEDS, NO ROOFING MATERIALS.

DO NOT LEAVE STUFF BY THE DUMPSTER. EITHER BE PREPARED TO PUT YOUR STUFF IN THE DUMPSTER OR DO NOT BRING IT.

News & Notes

Thirty Plus Sales at our Spring Neighborhood Garage Sale. On our initial garage sale date of April 14, we had 11 sales despite the cold and rainy weather. Our rain date of April 21 proved to be sunny with 20 sales held in the neighborhood. Many thanks to our neighbors Amanda and Eric Copley, who donated the classified ad for the sale, and to Matt Smith at Redline Signs for donating and placing the banners advertising the sale.

Lost and Found MMNA Pets. Neighbors request that a note be posted on our MMNA Web site to ask for help for lost and found pets. Send the email to mayomeadow@hotmail.com or visit the Web site at tulsamayomeadow.blogspot.com

Vision 2025 update: Look for the new Mayo Meadow signs on the back of stop signs across the neighborhood. Thanks to Clay Nidiffer for transporting them to the City for installation. Our Vision 2025 entry gates final plans have been submitted to the City, and progress is moving forward on this.

Mayo Meadow Gardeners! Can you help? We need suggestions for neighborhood beautification. If you want to serve on this committee, contact Jeanie Newell at 747-6389 or leave a message at mayomeadow@hotmail.com. Gardeners can also add their names to the list of those who want to help with landscaping of the entry gates upon completion.

2006 Fair Parking Survey Results. A great deal of concern was generated in the neighborhood during the 2006 Tulsa State Fair due to the lack of enforcement of parking codes by the City of Tulsa Police. Calls by neighbors to the Police went unanswered. MMNA formed a Fair Parking Committee to hear neighborhood complaints. Several meetings were held and survey was created passed out during the March meeting and was made available on the MMNA website. Here are some highlights:
* 84% want MMNA to address parking issues in the neighborhood.
* 91.5% want to see existing regulations/codes enforced during the Fair.
* 98% would like to see additional security present in the neighborhood during the Fair.
* 72% agree that parking on yards has a negative impact on property values.

Donations to MMNA are welcome. MMNA is a non profit organization funded with donations from neighbors who support the association goals and projects. If you profited from our garage sale, if you plan to use our dumpster, if you enjoyed our meetings and the Block Party, read our newsletter and other publications, consider donating at our next meeting, or contact the MMNA about making a contribution my mail or drop-off.

MMNA is also looking for donations of time. Below is a list of things you can do to help the association:
* Help us walk the MMNA newsletter around a few blocks. Our newsletter is delivered to every residence and business by MMNA Block Captains. This is a way to make sure that all our neighbors have access to neighborhood news, and a fun way to meet your neighbors. Contact Bev Clark at 747-1515 or email mayomeadow@hotmail.com to get your route.
* Sign up for a MMNA committee to help beautify and improve our neighborhood
* Help with our recycling efforts. We are recycling metal cans at our Blue Bin located at 28th and Richmond by the expressway. MMNA volunteers exchange the cans for cash, which goes directly into our treasury. Volunteers are also wanted to help recycle plastic items. Newspapers can be recycled in the bin on 29th St. across from the Memorial Baptist Church.
* Print out information from our Web site for neighbors who do not have Internet access.

Neighborhood walkers, runners, and strollers keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. Sherry Strong, our Alert Neighbors Committee Chairman, encourages neighbors to report to the police ANYTHING that appears suspicious. Talk with your neighbors and agree to call the police if something seems amiss. The police would rather answer a false alarm than have to deal with a victim. The warmer the weather, the more crime. Alert! If someone seems to be aimlessly driving around the neighborhood, ask them if you can help them, especially if they are using a computer in the car.
