FREE HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION

Many everyday products such as paint and lawn chemicals can be dangerous if used or stored improperly and cause serious environmental damage if tossed in the trash or poured down the drain. The M.e.t.’s biannual Fairgrounds Pollutant Collection event at the Tulsa State Fairgrounds is the only free opportunity in Tulsa to dispose of your household hazardous waste properly.

Storing even a half-bottle of drain cleaner makes your home, neighborhood, and planet a little less safe. If you have to use chemicals, buy what you need and use them up. If you have some left over take them to our semiannual Fairgrounds Pollutant Collection.

WHEN: March 28 – 29 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

WHERE: Tulsa State Fairgrounds.

Transport pollutants to the event in the trunk of a car or the bed of a pick-up truck. Trained volunteers will remove the household pollutants from your vehicle for you.

Items Accepted Include: household cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, automotive fluids, cooking oil, batteries, all fluorescent light bulbs, small ammunition, smoke alarms, aerosol paint, hobby paint, pool chemicals, items containing mercury, gasoline, and unused or out-of-date prescription medications.

Items NOT Accepted at the Event: latex paint, tires, computers, radioactive waste and commercial waste. Latex paint is not accepted because it is not hazardous. It is water-based and can safely
disposed of by being dried out. Remove the lid and let the paint completely dry. Tulsa residents can place two cans of dry paint next to regular residential trash for pick up.
