Mayo Meadow needs 5 volunteers to help us put our best foot forward for our community. Our neighborhood gardens at the entry gates at 27th and Pittsburg and 27th and Vandalia need a little TLC.
Maurie Traylor, a neighbor and professional gardener and landscaper is looking for volunteers to work on the evenings of Thursday, Sept. 10th and Sept. 17th for about 2 hours each evening.
This could be a great opportunity for you to obtain extra credit for community projects or even learn about drought resistant gardening from a gardening pro.
Email Maurie at novelgardener@gmail.com by Sept. 8th if you would like to help beautify our neighborhood. MMNA will supply the materials.
All those participating will receive ONE free packet of certified organic seeds perfect for beginning your own garden.
Here are the tasks needed:
- Trim back all unwanted growth
- Remove any dead or diseased plants
- Remove all weeds - really bad on the Vandalia garden
- Re-apply mulch
- Re-plant any perennials needed
We are also looking for volunteers to help keep the gardens watered during the fall and winter.
